طُولُ الأَمَل

Tul al-Amal

Door 2 · 7 days

One of three roads after Door 1. You walk the one you choose. See all three

Tul al-Amal is long hope.

Long hopes

Door 2 · Day 1

“I'll start tomorrow.”

Tomorrow comes, and it moves to the next day.

The Quran has a word for this hope: al-amal.

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

so [Prophet] leave them to eat and enjoy themselves. Let [false] hopes distract them: they will come to know.

Al-Hijr 15:3 · Abdel Haleem

Al-Sa'di explains “hopes distract them”: they hope to stay on in this world, and it keeps them from the Hereafter. Doing one thing today is Sayqal's suggestion.

Your step

Right now, think of one thing you keep leaving for tomorrow.

Do it today. Even a small part of it.

The seven days

Every day, one small step. Two or three minutes.

  1. Day 1From tomorrow
  2. Day 2Tomorrow, unknown
  3. Day 3Before it comes
  4. Day 4Let me go back
  5. Day 5Not too late
  6. Day 6Hurry
  7. Day 7Looking back

One question a day

Door 2 · Day 1

The thing you keep leaving for tomorrow. What is it?

  • Praying on time
  • Leaving a bad habit
  • A call or visit I owe someone
  • My work or studies

This stays on your phone.

On Day 7, all your answers come back to you.

After 7 days

You'll say “from tomorrow” less. What can happen today, you'll do today.

It feels like there's plenty of time, so things wait for later. Now you know what waits the most. This line stays next to Tul al-Amal on your road.
